About the Lafayette Police Foundation

The Lafayette Police Foundation was formed earlier this year to support, advance and promote public safety through education, service and development of good citizens and future leaders in the field of law enforcement. The Lafayette Police Department has always been at the forefront in the advancement of professionalism in Law Enforcement. Due to changing times and funding shifts to public agencies your support is needed now more than ever. Your donation to the Lafayette Police Foundation will make it possible for our police force to be the best trained, most equipped, and more importantly, continue to ensure our community is a safe place for our families and future generations.

At this time the Lafayette Police Foundation is seeking funding to help implement a comprehensive, high-tech body and car camera system for the Lafayette Police Department. The new TASER camera system will provide officers with the advanced technology needed to fight crime and solidify trust in public service. Outfitting our police officers with this innovative, body worn smart camera technology will provide everything from multiple incident views, to intuitive wireless communication and highly comprehensive evidence gathering, thus equipping our men and women in law enforcement with the highest level tools available.

The total cost of the project over 5 years is $911,000. The Lafayette Police Foundation is seeking $75,000 to help offset the first year initial capital expenditures associated with the TASER body camera system, which includes in car camera systems, body cams and other accessories. The deadline for funding this project is January 31, 2016. The goal is to launch this project in the first quarter of 2016. The Foundation is an independent 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization and your gifts are tax deductible. Donors will be recognized during various media and outreach events, as well as on the LPD web site and at the annual LPD banquet. If you prefer not to be recognized please let us know.

“With the help and generosity of caring citizens like you, the Lafayette Police Foundation can make this innovative program a reality. It’s about doing what is right for the community and increasing support for the men and women who put their lives on the line each and every day to protect our wellbeing and the integrity of this place we call home.”  –   Patrick J. Flannelly, Chief of Police
